One Clean Windshield, One Playful Bengal, and the Road to the Redwoods
Some mornings on the road don’t need anything big to make them good. This morning, Breezie was outside cleaning yesterday’s collection of bugs off the RV windshield while Silver sat inside watching every move she made. To him, I’m pretty sure washing a windshield is some kind of live entertainment. Then I called him. That was all it took. Silver came running toward me, jumped up by the driver’s seat, and suddenly it was playtime. He was bright-eyed, wound up, and ready for whatever came next. Apparently, he knows we’re going somewhere. And today, we definitely are. The windshield is clean, the RV is getting ready to roll, and this morning we’re leaving Grants Pass and beginning the final leg of the journey that started all those miles ago. By tonight, if everything goes according to plan, we’ll finally be in Crescent City, California. The Redwoods. That was the destination we had in our minds when this whole trip began. We knew where we wanted to end up, but we didn’t know all the little things that would happen between there and here. The towns we would see. The people we would meet. The books we would sign. The mountains we would cross. The things we would learn. And all those ordinary little moments that somehow become the ones you remember. After Crescent City, we honestly don’t know exactly where we’re going next. And maybe that’s one of the beautiful things about life. You don’t always need to know where the road goes after the next stop. Sometimes it’s enough to know where you’re headed today, appreciate who is beside you, clean the bugs off the windshield, and keep moving forward. And if you can have a playful Bengal cat waiting in the driver’s seat when you’re finished, that doesn’t hurt either. Crescent City and the Redwoods, here we come. Finius, Breezie and Silver
