A Little History Along the Road to Sacramento
Yesterday, as we made our way through Sacramento, we passed by a beautiful old street lined with trees and historic buildings. We later discovered it was Del Paso Boulevard, once part of historic Highway 40, a major route across America before the interstate highways. What really caught our attention was a bronze bust on the corner honoring Virgil Chapman, a local businessman who helped bring improved street lighting to the boulevard in 1948. But here's something even more interesting! This area was once home to Rancho Del Paso, a famous horse ranch that produced Ben Ali, the first California-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby, back in 1886! It's amazing how much history we pass without even realizing it. We've now made it to Sacramento, California! We're enjoying another chapter of our journey south, discovering little pieces of history along the way. Another unexpected discovery along the Adventures of Finius the Skinniest!
