On the Road Again! From Bakersfield to Barstow, Another Beautiful Adventure Awaits!

There's something about waking up on moving day that puts a little extra excitement in my heart. Another stretch of highway, another part of this beautiful country to explore, and absolutely no telling what we might discover along the way! This very morning, Breezie, Silver, and I will be saying goodbye to Bakersfield, California, and pointing our motorhome east toward Barstow. We've enjoyed our time here, but that familiar feeling is calling again. It's time to see what's waiting around the next bend. Goodbye, Bakersfield! You've Been Good to Us! We've spent the past week making some wonderful memories in this part of California. From exploring the Kern River country to wandering through beautiful landscapes, we've enjoyed seeing places we'd never experienced before. One thing traveling has taught me is that you don't have to find something spectacular every single day to have a wonderful life. Sometimes it's a quiet morning, a beautiful mountain, or simply spending another day with someone you love. And believe me, traveling with Breezie and Silver makes even an ordinary day interesting! Silver, of course, couldn't care less whether we're in Bakersfield, Barstow, or somewhere on the moon. As long as breakfast arrives on schedule and he has a comfortable place to stretch out, life is pretty darn good in his world. I think that cat has figured out something the rest of us are still learning! Highway 58, Here We Come! Our journey takes us east along California Highway 58, a road that carries travelers from the agricultural heart of the San Joaquin Valley up through the Tehachapi Mountains and into the wide-open Mojave Desert. We'll be climbing into mountain country near Tehachapi before descending toward Mojave and continuing east toward Barstow. It's a remarkable change of scenery in a relatively short distance. We'll leave behind the farmland surrounding Bakersfield, cross rugged mountain country, and eventually find ourselves surrounded by the enormous open spaces of the California desert. And here's a little history I found interesting. Before becoming California Highway 58, much of this route was part of historic U.S. Highway 466. That old highway connected communities across the Southwest long before today's interstate system became the primary way Americans traveled. I love thinking about all the people who traveled these roads before us, heading toward new opportunities, visiting family, or simply looking for a better life. Different generations, different vehicles, but that same desire to discover what's waiting down the road. Barstow, California, Our Next Adventure! Barstow sits in the Mojave Desert, surrounded by a landscape that has fascinated travelers for generations. It's also a place with a wonderful connection to America's highway history, including the legendary Route 66. And you know how much Breezie and I enjoy discovering a little history along the way! We're looking forward to exploring the area, seeing what interesting places we can find, and hopefully getting out for some beautiful walks. We never know exactly what we'll discover until we get there, and that's half the fun. Sometimes the most memorable places are the ones we weren't even looking for. Every Mile Is Another Gift As I get older, I find myself appreciating these days more than ever. There was a time in my life when I couldn't have imagined living like this. Traveling across America with the woman I love, our special little Bengal cat riding along, and the freedom to explore another beautiful piece of the Creator's world. I don't take any of it for granted. Life hasn't always been easy, and I certainly haven't always made the best decisions. But I've learned that yesterday doesn't have to determine what tomorrow looks like. Every morning is another opportunity to appreciate what we've been given and do the very best we can with it. And today, we're going to do exactly that. We'll climb into the motorhome, make sure Silver is comfortable, hook Willie Bear up behind us, and head east toward another adventure. There will be mountains, desert scenery, and probably a few surprises along the way. And we'll be bringing all of you along with us! Come Along for the Ride!
