Three Rivers, California: A Little Town With a Whole Lot of Heart
Sometimes the places that leave the biggest impressions aren't the famous destinations. They're the little towns you discover along the way, the ones that remind you there's still so much beauty in this world if you take the time to appreciate it. Breezie and I had come to this part of California to explore Sequoia National Park, but we weren't about to overlook the beautiful country surrounding it. That's how we found ourselves enjoying Three Rivers, a charming little community nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. And what a beautiful place it turned out to be! A Little History Along the Way One thing we've learned through our travels is that almost every little town has an interesting story. Three Rivers is certainly no exception. The community gets its name from the North, Middle, and South forks of the Kaweah River, which come together in this area. The name Three Rivers was suggested back in 1879 by a woman named Louisa Rockwell. Just imagine how much life has changed here since those early days! Today, Highway 198 takes travelers right through this beautiful community on their way toward Sequoia National Park. But there's so much more to appreciate than simply driving through. We love seeing the old signs, the little businesses, the surrounding countryside, and the reminders of earlier generations who helped shape these communities. It's the kind of history you might never notice if you're always in a hurry. And then there's the Kaweah River, winding through this beautiful foothill country, adding another touch of the Creator's handiwork to an already spectacular landscape. Finding Happiness in the Simple Things One of our favorite memories from Three Rivers was stopping for a picture beside that big wooden sign. Nothing fancy. Just Breezie and me enjoying another beautiful day together. But you know something? Those are the moments we've come to treasure. The older we get, the more we realize that happiness doesn't always come from doing something extraordinary. Sometimes it's simply being together, exploring someplace new, sharing a laugh, and appreciating the opportunity to experience another day. Life has given us plenty of challenges over the years, but it's also given us countless reasons to be grateful. And standing there together in Three Rivers was another one of those reasons. A Little Advice for Fellow Travelers If you're planning a trip to Sequoia National Park, consider spending some time exploring Three Rivers instead of treating it as just another town along the highway. For our fellow RV travelers, here's something important to know. The National Park Service advises against taking large RVs up the steep, winding Generals Highway from the Ash Mountain Entrance toward Giant Forest. Those mountain roads have tight curves and significant elevation changes, so research your route before heading into the park. And remember, mountain rivers can be beautiful but dangerous, especially when the water is running high. Enjoy the scenery while keeping safety in mind. Come Explore Three Rivers With Us!
