From Grants Pass to the Redwoods: The Road Changed Everything

There are drives where you simply watch the miles go by. And then there are drives where, somewhere along the way, you realize the whole world outside the windshield has changed. Leaving Grants Pass, Oregon, we pointed the RV toward the California coast and followed Highway 199 south. We knew we were heading toward the redwoods, but knowing something is coming and actually watching it unfold in front of you are two completely different things. The road began twisting through the mountains. The forest grew thicker. Rock walls rose beside us, rivers appeared below us, and around almost every bend there seemed to be another view that made us slow down and look twice. Then came the tunnel. There is something about taking a 31-foot motorhome through a mountain tunnel that gets your attention. One moment you're surrounded by daylight and forest, and the next you're rolling straight into the darkness with nothing but those tunnel lights stretching ahead of you. And then you come out the other side. That was when this drive really started feeling like an adventure. Mile by mile, the scenery became greener, deeper and wilder. The mountains seemed to close around the highway, and before long we were entering a world filled with trees so enormous that even from inside the RV it was hard to understand just how big they really were. This wasn't just another travel day. It felt like the road itself was introducing us to the next chapter of our journey. That's one of the things we love most about traveling this way. You don't simply arrive somewhere. You get to watch the land change. You see one world slowly become another through the windshield. And sometimes the road getting there becomes every bit as memorable as the destination. Come ride along with us from Grants Pass, through the tunnel, into the mountains and toward California's incredible redwood country. Turn the sound up, make the screen big, and pretend you're sitting right there in the RV with us. Because this journey is only getting better. And we've got a whole lot more road ahead.
